Thoughts On My Last Day Here

WeddingIQ Blog - Thoughts on My Last Day Here

I sit today in the basement level of my house.  It’s where we’ve operated our business since we moved into this home 18 months ago.  It has three big work stations, a conference table, some project areas, and a kitchenette.

We’ve always been a “home business.”  Before moving into this home, we ran our business from a spare bedroom in another home, and before that, from a basement in another home, and before that, from the spare bedroom in a series of tiny apartments.

On Monday, that all changes.  We’re moving into our first “real” office, a small-but-high end space in a brand-new building, with big windows looking down onto the street below.  Kind of hard to believe it’s taken us 10 years to get to a step that many wedding business owners start with — a dedicated, non-home space — but I think the wait has been a good thing.

After all, in a decade of business with all that rent saved, we’ve managed to grow our business from just my husband and myself to a team of 15; we’re generating 15 times more revenue than we did our first year in business, and we’ve built what I think is a pretty respectable company.  I think that our slow, strategic growth, in which we made sure not to put the proverbial cart before the horse, has been very positive for us and has helped to sustain our business in lean times, when others went under.

Still, I’d be lying if I said I’m not excited.  I’m ridiculously excited.  I’m looking forward to having a professional space, surrounded by wonderful amenities, in which I can collaborate with vendors and really focus on my work, leaving my home life at home.  I’m looking forward to regaining the space in my house.  And most of all, I’m looking forward to enjoying a reward for 10 years of hard work.

See you all very soon, where I’ll be writing my posts in a very different setting.
