If not, you’re missing a great opportunity to interact with other wedding businesses (many of us tag our favorite wedding vendors on a regular basis, thus promoting them on our page as well) as well as clients and media sources.  A business Facebook page is an easily-managed, highly searchable way to promote your company, share images, and keep up with what’s happening in your industry.

You can create a business Facebook page in just a few easy steps:

  • Set up the page itself through Facebook using their Pages link.  I personally recommend using the category of “Local Business” if you are, in fact, running a local wedding business.  Choose the category most appropriate to your business (e.g. Event Planning/Event Services) and fill in your contact information.  The more specific you can get, the better!  Add a profile picture (your logo, headshot, or a sample image of your work — but ideally, something that is recognizable at thumbnail size), fill in the “About” details, and choose your custom URL (web address).
  • Add photos of your work — the more visually you can depict your business, the better.
  • Build your fan base by inviting your Facebook friends and promoting your page via your website and other social media accounts.  Strive for fans that care about your message.  All the “likes” in the world won’t help you if they aren’t actually interested in your business — which is why trading “likes” doesn’t work.  Instead, focus on building an audience that’s actually relevant to your business.
  • Commit to creating content: meaningful interactions with other wedding professionals and clients, links to your blog posts and other items of interest from around the web, and fun updates about what you’re doing.  The more active your page is, the more likely people are to remain engaged, and an abandoned page is all but worthless.  By working your Facebook updating into your daily or weekly routine, you’ll be able to keep up without it being overwhelming.
